Alice Kicks Off

Very hard work to turn up the first males of the year in Alice today.  I managed to see 3 males at the Goose Green Old Car Park high point, by Bucks Horn Oak.  First, 2 males chasing at 1.53, then 3 in a vista at 2.05.  But that was it.  The moderate to fresh NE wind did not help, preventing them from occupying the favoured summit; instead they were down a little way on the western slope.

I am fairly confident that today was the first day of the flight season there.

Odd that the butterfly has come out later there than at sites in Surrey, West Sussex, Middx, Bucks and Oxon - Alice is usually one of the earliest...

And in case you're wondering, IT IS NOT OUT IN FERMYN ...

Only 2 White Admiral and 1 S W Frit seen in Fermyn yesterday . Cloudy from the start today feeling distinctly cooler . I think Fermyn is a few days away yet . Plenty of people out looking for HIM though and amazed that they are blanking still .

That confirms it. Trip to Northants postponed! Staying down south.
